Applied Theater Workshop
“Anyone can do theater, even actors. And theater can be done everywhere, even in a theater.” —Augusto Boal
We all carry stories within us that, when shared, can be powerful, revealing their dazzling brilliance and inspiring empathy and motivation in those around us. The applied theater workshop provides a warm and welcoming environment where these voices will be heard. In applied theater, regardless of profession or background, we are all actors with the opportunity to express our spoken and unspoken stories through the stage language. This workshop is a collective journey of theatrical exploration, focusing on developing improvisation and storytelling skills, mainly through the expressive power of the body and movement. Theater games and fun activities will boost participants' body awareness, flexibility, and expressiveness. They will experience these skills for releasing tensions and representing their feelings on stage or in daily interpersonal relations.
The workshop consists of four two-hour sessions and participants will receive an invitation to extended rehearsals to bring the theatrical piece developed in the workshop to the stage.
Workshop Topics:
- Body Expression
- Image Theater
- Freeze Frame
- Physical Storytelling
Ali Foumani, the workshop designer and facilitator, is a playwright and theater director with extensive experience in education, literature, and social sciences, as well as pedagogical theater, forum theater, and other forms of applied theater.
